Our Mindstorms EV3 Robotics class offers an exciting blend of building and programming using the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Robotic Kit.
Robot Construction:
Students will construct their own LEGO robots, leveraging components such as servo motors, ultrasonic sensors, color sensors, gyro sensors, and touch sensors.
Each student will receive an individual computer and a dedicated EV3 robotic kit during class to practice coding.
Hands-On Learning:
Students can take home the projects and programs they create. However, there won’t be any LEGO pieces taken home—just the knowledge and experience!
The foundation begins with building a Driving Base using the EV3 Mindstorms platform. Students will:
Learn how to connect the robot to a laptop.
Download programs from the laptop to the robot and execute them.
Explore various LEGO components, including axles, gears, joints, beams, and connectors, while constructing the Drive Base.
Programming Exploration:
Students will engage in block programming, similar to the popular platform Scratch.
Key programming concepts include:
Servo motor control and utilizing encoders for precise robot movement.
Capturing sensor input and integrating it into their programs.
Using the touch sensor to avoid collisions with obstacles.
Employing the color sensor in different modes: ambient, reflective, and color sensing.
Leveraging the gyro sensor to achieve precise turns.
Navigating through mazes by utilizing the ultrasonic sensor for obstacle detection.
